Community Radiology Associates is pleased to announce that, thanks to a local non-profit group called Team H.O.P.E., it can offer free mammography or breast ultrasound to approximately 100 under or uninsured women in Frederick County that normally wouldn’t qualify for free breast services. To qualify, the women must meet certain criteria established by the county health department’s Breast and Cervical Cancer Program (BCCP) criteria. They must be:
· Under 40 years of age with a family history of cancer or
· Over 40 years of age who exceed income guidelines for BCCP
Gene Perry, Regional Vice President of Operations, says, “We’re very excited to help more women get these important breast screening services. We are hoping to be able to serve about 100 patients with the initial funds so generously donated from Team H.O.P.E. We’ll then continue the partnership as long as additional funds are available.”
H.O.P.E. stands for Help Open People’s Eyes to breast cancer. The group has raised more than $205,000 since becoming established in 2008; in 2011, it donated $21,500 to BCCP and $17,000 to the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure to support the fight against breast cancer in Frederick County. The donation of $7000 to Community Radiology is made in memory of Doris Marie Warthen, who lost her fight against breast cancer in 2007.
If you believe that you or someone you love qualifies for a free breast imaging exam, please call Beth Mowry, BCCP Coordinator for Frederick County, at 301-600-3317.
