Now Available: Coronary Artery Calcium Scoring

 Coronary Artery Calcium Scoring
Community Radiology offers Coronary Artery Calcium (CAC) Scoring in Bethesda and Frederick. This CT heart scan is deemed appropriate for asymptomatic patients with intermediate coronary heart disease risk by the American Heart Association and American College of Cardiology’s Clinical Expert Consensus Task Force. Patients with a high CAC score can be reclassified to a higher risk status with a corresponding change in their cardiovascular management.

A study published this January in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology found that the absolute CAC score was a better predictor of the risk of heart events than scores that adjusted for age, sex or ethnicity. Patients with scores of 100 or lower wereat low risk of cardiac events -- regardless of their age-sex-ethnicity percentile rank. Patients with an absolute CAC score of 400 or higher were at high risk regardless of percentile rank in their group.
